Title: Silvertron elite not working
Post by: Cwgoodrich on February 16, 2016, 01:37:20 PM
My silvertron elite is not working. When I first got it, I set the Ma at 5, ppm at 20. Turn it on and it would read 5 Ma, volts 10. Now when it turn it on, Ma only comes up to 2, volts 28. Any suggestions?

Touch the electrode leads together and see what the current indicates.  If the current goes up to the settting value, then the problem is not the SilverTron.  If it reads only 2, then use a jumper wire to connect the inside of the electrode lead connect to the outside and observe the reading.    If its still just 2, then the problem is internal, and you can return it to me for repair.  If the current goes up to the setting, then the problem is the leads (less likely), and I can send you new leads.

Then you should return it to me for repair.  The address is on the warranty page in the store http://www.silvertronstore.com/Warranty-And-Returns_ep_42.html

After further investigation, the silvertron elite is perfect. The leads are a little suspect. The red lead is hit and miss.

Which style leads do you have, two separate leads with banana plugs, or the combined leads with an RCA phono plug?

As I mentioned in my first post, my readings dropped to Ma 2, volts 28. I hate to post this information but I think I added 20 drops of reducer to my quart of distilled water instead of 20 drops of electrolyte. The red lead is hit and miss.

An easy mistake to make.  Which end of the red lead is intermittent?  If its the red banana plug, that is fixable, as it is not a solder joint.  The red cap unscrews, and the stripped wire end goes through the center hole and then through a smaller hole at the screw threads.

If its the other end, then soldering would be required to fix it.

RCA phono plug, and your correct. Needs to be resoldered.
